

MUSCAT: The Majlis Ash’shura will discuss on Tuesday a proposed draft law on alternative penalties and measures.
The council’s discussion of the proposed law falls within its legislative responsibilities aimed at developing the legislative system of the Sultanate of Oman. The council will also discuss several reports submitted by its standing committees regarding the economic, educational and service sectors at its 21st regular session of the third ordinary session of the tenth term (2023-2027).
This was stated by Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura. He noted that the council continues to perform its legislative and oversight work for the third ordinary session of the current term, which will conclude on July 12, the date set for the end of the current session, in accordance with the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
Al Nadabi said that the council will hold its twenty-first regular session on Tuesday which will witness a discussion of a proposed draft law on alternative penalties and measures. The discussion will be based on the report prepared by the Legislative and Legal Committee after its review of the proposal, which includes a detailed legal, legislative and practical analysis, as well as a comparison with relevant legislation.
The secretary-general of Majlis Ash’shura explained that the session will also include discussion and approval of several reports from the council’s standing committees regarding a number of proposals, including the report of the Economic and Financial Committee on the proposal to Evaluate the Current State of Local Industries in the Sultanate of Oman. The council will also discuss the report of the Education, Research, and Innovation Committee regarding the proposal to expand public-private partnerships in early childhood education, and the care of academically gifted, talented, and disabled students."
The council will also review a report prepared by the Services and Public Utilities Committee regarding the proposal to enhance the efficiency of electricity and water services in the Sultanate of Oman. The report outlines ways to improve service levels and efficiency to meet the requirements of sustainable development and enhance the quality of life for citizens and residents. The session will also include a briefing for the council members on several draft laws and agreements recently referred to the council by the government, Al Nadabi concluded.
